Sustainability and Integrity

Greetings Goddesses!

Here, we would like to share something central to our core beliefs. At The Juicy Goddesses, we firmly believe that creating and producing beautiful, sensual, comfortable clothing in a sustainable, no-harm way is not only possible, it's essential.

Why we chose to be sustainable:

You have probably heard that our Global Carbon Footprint is at an all-time high. To no one's surprise, the fashion industry, with its fast fashion and waste, is a massive part of this problem. Globally, one garbage truck full of textile debris is dumped in a landfill EVERY Second! That's a lot of waste! Much of the excess is due to fast fashion products often being made with low-end, cheap fabrics, usually petroleum-based, and heavily sprayed cotton. Acrylic, nylon, and polyester require a significant amount of energy to produce, significantly affecting our greenhouse gases. Cheap fabrics are then sewn at the lowest standards, making them fall apart quickly so that they need to be replaced more often, garnering more profit for manufacturers. Another critical issue is that these clothes and fabrics are usually made in terrible conditions in third-world countries. Workers toil for long hours in horrific conditions, getting little to no breaks and earning almost nothing to support their families. Recently it has come to light that the fast fashion industry is one of the major culprits in the atrocity of using child labour. THIS HAS TO END.

Then there is all the additional harm caused by the dangerous chemicals used to grow cotton. Or the harmful dyes used to colour our clothes which leeches into our water supply. And the microfiber plastics that shed off when we wash our petroleum-based materials. The list of such dangerous practices goes on and on.

Our skin is our biggest organ, and our planet is our only planet. So all of this affects all of us!

Let's change this cycle together and Demand SLOW fashion.

How, you ask?

    1. Support thrift shopping first
    2. Support slow fashion small brands that are sustainable
    3. Avoid petroleum-based materials.
    4. Demand fair wages and safe factories for workers
    5. BUY LESS (When you buy high quality you will need less)

The fabrics we use:

All of our fabrics are made from 100% high-quality materials like Organic Cotton, Hemp, Bamboo, Tencel, Linen, Wool, and Silk and come from sustainable factories. The fabrics are made with low-impact dyes and are certified by the STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®️ , which is one of the preeminent global standards ensuring that textiles are tested for harmful substances. We are proud to only use a broad collection of STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® certified fabrics.

The dyes used:

The dyes used in our fabrics are free from heavy metals, chemical mordants, and AZO's. The dyeing cycle is also shorter than conventional dyeing processes, resulting in lower water, salt, and chemical requirements. Further, all offcuts and scrapes are reused or donated, making The Juicy Goddesses a truly low-waste business. Our fabric suppliers also recycle or donate their scraps, making them sustainable too. This year we plan to start offering plant-dyed pieces as well.

Sewing and productions:

Currently, The Juicy Goddesses is designed and sewn by stay-at-home mom Jenna, creator of The Juicy Goddesses. As we expand, we hope to hire other women to help sew. All sewers will always be paid a fair wage and treated with respect. We will never compromise our integrity as we grow, and we pledge to only keep to the highest standards.

Packaging and shipping materials:

We use a Canadian-based company called noissue to supply our high-quality and eco-friendly packaging to ensure less waste. At noissue, Compostable Mailers are made from a combination of PBAT, a bio-based polymer which is compostable, and PLA, which is made up of plant materials such as regular field corn and wheat straw. PLA makes up barely 0.05% of the annual global corn crop, making it an incredibly low-impact resource. These fibres are 100% compostable and break down in 180 days in an at-home compost or 90 days in a commercial compost. The boxes are made from 100% Recycled Kraft material and printed with earth-friendly inks. And the stickers used are 100% recyclable and compostable and made with FSC-certified materials and soy-based inks.

We are also proud to partner with a wonderful business called Botanical Paperwork, also a Canadian-based company. This company focuses on reusing already-made waste from post-consumer and post-industrial paper collected from local offices and schools. They then embed wildflower GMO-free seeds into the paper. This is amazing because after you are finished with the paper, you can plant it in your gardens to help support the bees! We use Botanical to make our business cards, tags and thank-you notes.

Shipping:

We are proud to say that we offer a 100% carbon-neutral national parcel delivery service, available in Canada ONLY, with Sendle.

We do also offer worldwide shipping, but as of now, we are looking into how best to make this carbon-neutral too.

Closed loop business:

At The Juicy Goddesses, we use the closed-loop business model to reduce waste as much as possible. This means that if a customer wishes to return an item they have bought in the past, we can give them a store credit in exchange for their purchase. They would get an in-store credit of $50 for any items that were $50 or more or $100 for purchases that were $100 or more. The article would need to be not damaged or stained. The customer would need to pay for shipping back to us. The item shipped back would be touched up and put on a preloved discount sale so it could find a new home. All articles would be categorized for in-store credit by their regular price; any sales or discounts would not be included in the final value ascertained.

Giving back:

We are beyond grateful for all the support YOU have given us, and so we want to share the wealth, which makes us proud to be able to give back 5% on each order to the Days Of Girls charity, helping women all over the world!

"We increase access to menstrual care and education by developing global partnerships, cultivating Social Entrepreneurs, mobilizing volunteers and innovating sustainable solutions that shatter stigma and limitations for women and girls." Quote from Days Of Girls
